Other medications

In addition to corticosteroids, there is a range of drugs including ones that suppress your immune system (immunosuppressants), that are used to manage your disease. We are all unique and a treatment that works for one person without too many side effects may not work for someone else, so it occasionally takes a little while before you find a drug that works for you.

There are no drugs currently specifically developed and approved in the UK to treat pemphigus or pemphigoid, but drugs approved for other diseases can be effective in treating our conditions. These are called “re-purposed” drugs. All the ones mentioned here are re-purposed.

Some of the other medications your doctor may suggest could include the ones listed below. Clicking on the drug name will take you to a reliable source of information on these treatments (the British Association of Dermatologists Patient Education Leaflets or Drugs.com in the main). Drugs can interact with each other, and you can check side effects and drug interactions.

We would urge you to read the information leaflet supplied with your prescription very carefully.
