Hazel, Scott and Trina are ready to go

On Wednesday July 2nd Trina, Scott and Hazel attended Day 2 of the British Association of Dermatology Annual Meeting

Here is Trina's report:

Mikolaj Swiderski, Research Associate, Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology (CEBD). Mikolaj visited the PEM Friends booth and extended his heartfelt thanks to PEM Friends for their invaluable support with CEBD's various projects. They emphasized the vital role that we, as a support group, play for patients living with autoimmune blistering diseases (AIBD).

Nine additional doctors signed up to our mailing list—an encouraging boost in engagement!

Trina attended the afternoon AGM, where updates were shared on the newly appointed Chief Executive and steering committee members. It was a highlight to see Melanie Westmoreland elected. The meeting featured several insightful updates on the workings of trial generation and prioritisation panels, helping us stay abreast of emerging research priorities.

Trina introduced Scott Marsden to Lisa Bickerstaffe at the British Skin Foundation's booth. Lisa invited Scott to share his personal journey—highlighting the lack of young male representation in AIBD narratives. Scott will now be in direct contact with Lisa to arrange this. An exciting advocacy opportunity! Watch this space for future updates on this.

Hazel and Scott had a warm and informative exchange with Dermatology consultants Olivia and Victoria, from Salisbury and the Midlands. Both expressed strong interest in our research exploring links between Mikolaj's work and COVID-19 vaccine outcomes.

Several doctors suggested having a single poster displaying QR codes for patient support groups. This would allow them to easily provide reliable information during consultations—especially since it's often forgotten. Trina will raise this idea at the next BAD PSG meeting.

Trina shared her 24 Hours in A&E Feature episode with an anaesthetist and explained about the (often forgotten) emergency presentation of Pemphigus.  The anaesthetist wrote on our visitor sign up form:

“Thank you for educating me about pemphigus vulgaris as a potential cause of airway obstruction—I have learned something new today."

This was certainly a powerful moment of impact!

Our final visitor was Dr.Thomas Tull, consultant at Guy’s Hospital's immunobullous clinic. He shared details of a promising new project and expressed a desire for support from PEM Friends. Further information will be shared soon.

Day 2 was indeed exhausting but highly productive—with new partnerships, innovative ideas (like the QR code poster), and emerging opportunities for patient and clinical engagement.

Coming Up:

Tomorrow, Trina will be joined by John Kendrick, PEM Friends' Treasurer, for the  finale Day 3.

It's been an exhausting, productive day for these 3
